Like the spiral petro-glyph at Chaco Canyon, the clerestory windows of the master bedroom were designed to mark the passage of time. In mid-winter, sunlight penetrates these windows and warms and illuminates the inside of the north wall. The private bath has both a shower and a Japanese "Ofuro", a small deep tub for soaking. It is separated from the bedroom by recycled, art-deco cut steel panels that mirror the circle theme in the main bathroom. The south wall is of one foot thick masonry to a height of eight feet. The view to the west is of Mint Wash and the prairie of Williamson Valley where in the days before statehood, the stagecoach from Seligman to Prescott stopped to change horses. The upper bedroom is the quietest place in the house. The east wall and part of the north wall are earth-bermed to a height of seven feet. The view of Granite Mountain from the south windows is the most spectacular in the house. |
