The Patios

Christopher Alexander, author of A Pattern Language, describes the design patterns intrinsic to European hillside villages and Native American pueblos.  These patterns make the living spaces comfortable and sustainable. The creation of easily accessible outdoor spaces, primarily south facing, was an important factor in many of them having been continuously occupied for over a thousand years.

The Warbler House has three south facing and one west facing outdoor patios. Depending upon the time of day and the season, at least one of those spaces remains comfortable. The view from each of the patios is extraordinary with Granite Mountain to the south, the Williamson Valley prairie and Mount Hope to the west and the protective granite ledge that defines our hillside site to the east.
