GUEST HOUSE

Because every idea conceived on paper should be proven on a small scale before the commitment of time and money, my wife and I decided to design and build a small cottage using the same principles of design as the main house. This has also provided the benefit of allowing us to live on the property and manage the project while we assess what passive solar strategies work. While small, our 24 foot by 24 foot "Caretakers Cottage" proved to be an elegant and efficient use of space and energy. Built overlooking the pond, it has provided countless opportunities to enjoy the wildlife that use our oasis. We have observed rabbit, skunk, coyote, fox, javelina, deer, bobcat and mountain lion right outside our front door.
